Hyrum Evans and his family. Our Grandmother Harris is found on the right side of the back row.
The Evans brothers, Thomas and Hyrum, built homes in Layton. The story of their youth is found in the story of their parents, Thomas and Ann John Evans. Their homes are still there and occupied by members of their families.
Grandfather Evans was a man of very stern character. I have not been able to glean too much concerning his life, but if I am able to add I shall. Itshould be noted that he was an officer of the law “Sheriff” in the county there for many years, and had to have things his own way unless someone proved he was wrong. But despite this he was a very lovable person.
He forced our Grandfather Harris to a duel to prove whether or not Grandpa was worthy to marry his daughter “Lide”. Grandpa proved to Grandma’s family that he did have the sufficient “stuff” to provide and care for her so he was accepted.
